Who said John McCain doesn’t get people excited? John Rich (from Big & Rich) has created a song and video for John McCain that sets out to show that McCain does attract a younger crowd…but will it make a splash? Personally, I don’t think the song is that amazing and I actually question John Rich’s intentions. Raising John McCain?!? From what? What does that even mean? It’s really just silly.
A part of me believes he’s just doing this for the publicity. He’s been pretty forward with the fact that he created this song, he’s been on TV, radio, etc. I don’t know, I’m being a little skeptical, but something just seems a little fishy. I do believe he’s a John McCain supporter, but I also think he’s found a great opportunity to promote himself and his music and now he’s exploiting McCain, the media, et al. Well, kudos to him, cause it seems to be working. See what you think and leave a comment if you have anything to add…
Raising McCain Video by John Rich
Raising McCain Lyrics & Song by John Rich
Well we’re all just raisin’ McCain
Everywhere across the USA
You can get on the train or get out of the way
We’re all just raisin’ McCain
And we’re all just raisin’ McCain
Everywhere across the USA
You can get on the train or get out of the way
We’re all just raisin’ McCain
Well he got shot down in a Vietnam town
Fighting for the red, white and blue
And they locked him up in the Hanoi Hilton
Thinking they could break him in two
He stayed strong, stayed extra long
‘Til they let all the other boys out
Now we’ve got a real man with an American plan
We’re going to put him in the big White House
Well we’re all just raisin’ McCain
Everywhere across the USA
You can get on the train or get out of the way
We’re all just raisin’ McCain
Play that American guitar, son
And we’re all just raisin’ McCain
Everywhere across the USA
You can get on the train or get out of the way
We’re all just raisin’ McCain
I said we’re all just raisin’ McCain
Everywhere across the USA
You can get on the train or get out of the way
We’re all just raisin’ McCain
Well you can get on the train or get out of the way
We’re all just raisin’ McCain

To the tune of “Ballad of Paladin.”
BALLAD OF PALIN
(©2008 Bob Beckley parody lyric)
HAVE BRAIN WILL TRAVEL READS THE CARD OF A GOV
A BOLD, FEARLESS LEADER WHEN PUSH COMES TO SHOVE
HER QUICK BRAIN FOR HIRE HEEDS THE WINDS OF CHANGE
A GREAT CHOICE FOR V.P. TO A MAN CALLED MCCAIN
PALIN, PALIN, GLASS CEILING BREAKS
PALIN, PALIN, TWO THOUSAND EIGHT
SHE TRAVELS ON TO THE WHITEHOUSE FOR US
A RECORD OF ETHICS IS HER BADGE OF TRUST
THERE ARE CAMPFIRE LEGENDS THAT ALASKANS SING
OF A WOMAN WITH TRUE GRIT, OF A WOMAN CALLED PALIN
PALIN, PALIN, GLASS CEILING BREAKS
PALIN, PALIN, TWO THOUSAND EIGHT
GLASS CEILING BREAKS
TWO THOUSAND EIGHT

How about this?
We’re just in need of a brain
We can’t see that he is the same
so you better tell you’re mama
cause she’s voting for Obama
We’re all just in need of a brain.

To the author of this article, who asks “Raising John McCain?!? From what? What does that even mean? It’s really just silly.”
Are you too young to remember the phrase “Raising Cain?” It’s a PLAY ON WORDS.
Jeez.

@Diane
I understand the “PLAY ON WORDS,” but do you understand that the movie Raising Cain is about someone with multiple personality disorder that goes around killing young mothers to obtain their babies? JEEZ!!!
Maybe you’re too old to remember that though I’m just saying they could have picked a better title and John Rich could have made it less about himself. I mean really, he was all over the place talking about how him this and him that…he was very self-promotional.

Give it a rest Diane and AAAARGH! If you don’t like it turn it off, that is your right. The rest of us do and we love John McCain and Sarah Palin. These guys are out there doing what they think is right and asking for the vote. As they say, if you can’t say something nice, then say nothing.

When 50 million AMERICANS buy the cd and it’s played over and over it will catch on! I love the utube version and can’t wait to order the cd. the song says that John is a hero who refused to leave the torture chamber until his buddies got out! I LOVE MCCAINE AND HE IS REAL! GOD BLESS AMERICA AND ALL AMERICANS!

This is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard. It’s just more of the usual red, white and blue sugar frosting that the Republicans use to make the sh!t look and taste better as they shovel it down our throats as we ask for more.

By Icepick on Sep 4, 2008 | Reply
Pfunk—the phrase “raising Cain” doesn’t come from the film; it’s a Biblical reference. The movie just borrowed it. (No offense meant, though! Just thought I’d clear that up.)
I’m not a huge fan of McCain’s policies (Go Ron Paul!), but I think he is a good man. And I like the song.
By gbj on Sep 5, 2008 | Reply
The play on words is obvious… maybe silly, but so what? It’s a campaign song.
What’s so mysterious about John Rich’s motives? He’s a supporter of McCain and is using his celebrity to promote him.
Perhaps you never noticed all the Hollywood celebrities who are forever supporting Democrats. Or the musicians who do the same. Do you wonder the same thing about them?
More likely you can’t understand people who support McCain and are patriotic and are not embarassed to wave the flag.

GO MCCAIN, GO RICH
Question, What do you get if you take one hell of a songwriter and add one hell of an American.
Answer… Two guys named John who happen to understand what this country needs. Morals and leadership.
All that NObama offers is a fancy speach and so called change. Im proud to be an american but if this country is changed by the likes of NObama, than we’d all ought to move to Mexico, to excape th socialist, comunist country the he will change the USA in to.

This is a great song, I love country context.

@Icepick: Gotcha, thanks for the frame of reference. The first thing that popped into my head was the movie, which doesn’t seem like somethig I’d want associated with someone I supported, ha. I’m sure I’m not the only one that made that connection, but I can understand the bible reference.
@gbj: I understand and said that I believe he’s a supporter of John McCain. I don’t think anyone’s questioning that. I’m just saying that John Rich seemed to be making it more about him when he should have been making it more about McCain…catch my drift? And for you to say that I “can’t understand people who support McCain and are patriotic and are not embarassed to wave the flag,” well, that’s just ridiculous. You don’t even know me, so I wouldn’t start making ridiculous assumptions like that.
@Paul: Morals and leadership? You think John McCain’s morals are better than Obama’s? In what regard? Last I checked, Barack Obama didn’t cheat on his wife and then divorce her because she “gained a little weight.” Oh, and having an adulterous relationship with another woman, divorcing your wife, and then remarrying a month later sounds like the type of morals I want to tell my kids about…umm yeah.
Regardless, I’m not sold on Obama or McCain yet. There’s still about 58 days left that are going to say a lot about the candidates. So, I say let’s see what happens. I’m excited at the prospect of both candidates for different reasons.

It’s a catchy tune but the lyrics are bad. Poor Republicans. This is what happens when all the cool music is created by liberals who support Democrats.

We all know that your crowd doesn’t think patriotism is cool.
And we know you would like cool musicians like R Kelly to run our government.
Doesn’t matter. Your candidate is fading quickly. Did you notice he pulled internet ad dollars? Why I wonder?
By nan on Sep 17, 2008 | Reply
Don’t think it takes a really smart person to figure out that if you do not like any of the choices you have for a presidetial candidate, maybe , you should be involved more in the process , like running for an office locally, etc. Lets not sit around and talk about not having the person we want if we aren’t willing to get out there and involve our own selves in the process. Also, why are sooo many people gripping when they are NOT EVEN registered voters!!!!!!!

My husband and I love this song.McCain and Palin will “Raise Cain” when they get to the White House. McCain knows where the corruption is in Washington. He will clean house….hopefully. Would love to hear this at all McCain speeches.

By hzzzz on Oct 11, 2008 | Reply
“Raising Cain” is to cause trouble – check websites. Cain and Abel brought offerings to God, but only Abel’s was accepted. Cain killed Abel in anger & was cursed by God – Genesis 4.
McCain’s raising rage…..interesting.

Hey everyone ! I’ve read all the comments you submitted. Everyone has his opinions and I respect them all. I live in France, and Obama has much succes here but if I lived in the USA, I’d raise MacCain, even if he’s a bit old…In case of problem, Sarah Palin would be able to take the succession. What’s more I LOVE JOHN RICH !!! Sooooooooooooo
